Three ways teams build local lead lists
Contact databases
For example: Apollo, ZoomInfo
Stored records of people and companies you filter by title, industry, size and place. Strongest for companies with a large online footprint and people with professional profiles.
Enrichment platforms
For example: Clay
Workflow tools that combine many data providers and AI research. Very flexible, as long as someone designs and maintains the workflow.
Scrapers and list finders
For example: Outscraper, D7 Lead Finder
Exports of business listings by keyword and place: names, phone numbers, websites, ratings and sometimes emails. Cheap per row, with the research left to you.
Ripple takes a fourth route: it searches Google Maps for the territory you draw, reads each company's own website with AI, scores the fit against your ideal customer and writes the call brief, so a list arrives ready to call.
Side by side
| Ripple | Contact databases | Enrichment platforms | Scrapers and list finders | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Where companies come from | Google Maps, searched live through the official Places API | A stored database | Providers you connect, or lists you bring | Google Maps and directory listings |
| Owner-run local businesses | Every listed business with a website in the area | Often thin | Depends on the providers | Listed, not researched |
| Research on each company | Built in: Claude reads the website | Firmographics and contacts | AI research you set up | Listing fields |
| Fit scoring | A–D against your ideal customer, with reasons | Filters and scoring rules | Formulas you build | None |
| Call brief | Included | Email writing on some plans | Build it yourself | None |
| Territory coverage | Tracked per area, with Find more | Filter by location | Not territory-based | One search at a time |
| Setup | Set your ideal customer, draw an area | Build searches and lists | Design the workflow | Run searches, clean the export |
| Pricing | Per lead, prepaid, no subscription | Seats and credits, or quotes | Monthly plans with credits | Per record or flat monthly |
When Ripple fits, and when it doesn't
Ripple is a good fit when
- You sell to owner-run local businesses: trades, clinics, shops, restaurants, service companies
- Your team calls by territory and wants every business in an area covered
- You want each company researched and scored before anyone dials
- You'd rather pay per lead than per seat or per month
Look elsewhere when
- You sell to large companies and need people by job title, or org charts
- You need email sequences at volume (Ripple feeds a call queue, not an email tool)
- Most of your prospects have no website, which Ripple needs for its research
- You want a one-off export of every listing in a country

FAQ
Comparison questions
Is Ripple a lead database?
No. Ripple doesn't sell records from a stored database. It searches Google Maps for the area and business types you choose when you run a scan, then researches each company from its own website.
Can I use Ripple alongside Apollo, ZoomInfo or Clay?
Yes. Many teams keep a contact database for larger accounts and email outreach, and use Ripple for local territories their callers work by phone.
How fresh is Ripple's data?
As fresh as the day you scan. Listings come from Google Maps at scan time and websites are read then too. Searching the same area again later only adds businesses Ripple doesn't have yet.
Does Ripple work for businesses that don't have a website?
Not yet. Ripple's research reads each company's own website, so listings without one are set aside during the scan. If most of your prospects have no website, a plain listing export may suit you better.
